A Journey Through My Holistic Spaces: Meditation, Breath-work, Yoga, and Reading

Keeping with the theme of sharing holistic spaces I had a reader share multiple spaces they have created over time which has helped them with their practices. It is important to remember that one size does not fit all, we can have multiple spaces to fit our different needs. I hope these inspire you as they have for me!

How to start a daily meditation practice

At the center of my home sits a peaceful oasis for growth—a collection of well-rounded areas designed to feed the mind, body, and soul. Every space reflects my path as a student-teacher, a creative writer, and someone who never stops learning. These spots offer a refuge where I can step back, recharge, and find myself again. These areas are more than just rooms; they serve as special retreats that boost my spiritual and inner growth, physical health and mental sharpness.

Meditation Area: A Reflection of Heritage and Serenity

I’ve built a small meditation garden right outside my house. It has turned into my haven drawing inspiration from my deep Kenyan heritage. This area serves as more than just a spot to unwind; it honors my roots and offers peace. At the heart of the garden sits a snug seating area with two red chairs designed in a traditional style that echoes African culture.

These seats beckon you to sit and soak in the surroundings, which feature a rich mix of trees, flowers, and other plants that breathe life into the space. The cool ground beneath your feet has a calming effect helping you to feel anchored and in tune with the earth. A wooden wall wraps around the garden giving privacy

and adding a touch of rustic charm that boosts the overall mood. This meditation spot combines nature with tradition providing a hidden getaway where I can leave behind the daily grind and grab a quiet moment to think and recharge. It’s also my place to step back from everything, shut my eyes, and get back in touch with who I am.

Breath-work Area: Finding Peace and Focus

Inside my house sits the breath-work space—an open simple setting that helps people relax and think. This area shines in its simplicity; it has no clutter, which lets natural light pour in creating a soft brightness that adds to the peaceful feel. A big window shows a view of lush green plants outside bringing nature indoors and reminding me how breath connects to life.

Meditation for anxiety and mental clarity

Here, I do deep breathing exercises to let go of stress and bring calm into my day. The simple design and open layout allow energy to move making it perfect to center my thoughts and stay in the now. Comfy cushions and a thin yoga mat make it easy to focus on my breathing without anything getting in the way.

Yoga Area: Finding Balance and Harmony

My yoga area is my local yoga studio! I love yoga and enjoy going to classes rather than practicing at home. This open, welcoming space lets me practice yoga allowing my body to move and mindfully. The design includes natural elements—like wooden flooring and touches of greenery—which connect me to nature grounding my practice in the earth’s energy. A large mirror on one wall helps me keep my postures aligned, while soft lighting creates a calm environment to focus on my practice.

Benefits of mindfulness meditation for emotional healing

Each pose and stretch in this area gives me a chance to find my inner balance. The simple surroundings help create a feeling of calm inside allowing my mind and body to work together. A nearby shelf holds yoga gear like blocks, straps, and bolsters, which support my practice and let me go deeper into each pose.

Home Library/Reading Area: A Place to Rest Your Mind

My home library, situated at a snug corner, is all about learning and discovering new things. This spot is my personal getaway where I can jump into books that spark my interest and help me understand more about the world.

Being around all these words gives me ideas for my writing, thoughts for my teaching, and info to keep me learning my whole life. Right in the middle, there’s a big comfy chair that’s just perfect for getting lost in a good book.

How to create a meditation space at home

The comfy chairs make it easy to spend long hours reading. The criteria used in selecting books is passions and pursuits. This is where I can learn, think, and create essential part of my holistic sanctuary. The wood shelves full of books from all sorts of times and topics prove how much I love learning and want to keep growing. In one corner, there is with a lamp which provides light in the room to facilitate note taking and journaling turning this spot into a real hideaway for my brain and creative pursuits.
